“Negotiation is the structure of any open society where lasting prosperity is an explicit goal. Negotiation is not only a conflict management technique, but it implies essential ethical learning too”

J. Mª Fidalgo, Cuadernos FORO NEGOCIA nº 1

Aware of the importance of negotiation in the most diverse political, economic, business and social spheres, the Centre for Negotiation and Mediation created in 2009 a space for meeting and debate, called “FORO NEGOCIA”.

“NEGOCIA” (literally NEGOTIATE in English) refers, on the one hand, to the basic nucleus of human encounters (all activities of human life in society involve some form of negotiation) and, on the other, “negotiate” is an imperative that recommends cooperative and debated forms of relationship, instead of other more belligerent and coercive ones.

The FORO NEGOCIA was created with the objective of generating knowledge about the nature, limits and purpose of negotiation, being considered as the process of human interaction and exchange of greatest political and social significance, and also as the optimal instrument for conflict resolution.

It is presided over by Mr. José Mª Fidalgo and run by Ms. Mercedes Costa.

The line of work of the FORO NEGOCIA focuses on:

• Creation of the “Cuadernos FORO NEGOCIA” collection of texts (available in “Cuadernos FORO NEGOCIA”).

• Calling of round tables and conferences that promote debate on current issues related to negotiation.

• Presence in opinion forums and at events of political and social impact.
